Speaking: work with me

Let’s have a conversation

I’m Roz Morris — a novelist, memoirist and former ghostwriter with more than 4 million copies sold. I write literary fiction that explores enigma, longing and the search for meaning, and memoirs that do that too, with a more humorous outlook. My work has been described as haunting, unexpected and compulsively page-turning. I make a lot of people miss their train stop or forget to cook dinner.

‘Don’t begin reading if you have something important to do.’

I’m also a thoughtful guest who loves deep conversation. If you’re looking for someone who can explore big human questions with wit, warmth and a bit of philosophical edge, I’d love to talk.

Three conversation angles I offer

  1. The Geography of the Soul

Why finding ‘the right house’ is not straightforward — and why the search is a journey into identity and possible futures, not just bricks and mortar.

We say we know what we want in a home, but really we’re trying to identify the place where we will be our truest selves — and it comes to us simply because someone else decides to let it go. Drawing on my memoir Turn Right At The Rainbow, I explore why house-hunting becomes a journey of self-discovery, a game with fate, and what happens when the search takes us somewhere we didn’t expect.

Will suit: lifestyle, philosophy, memoir and ‘sense of place’ podcasts.

  1. The Way We Live Now (Slowly)

Finding the ‘intriguing ordinary’ in a world that’s moving too fast.

In an age of constant noise and distraction, how do we reclaim our attention and notice what’s actually around us? I write about ‘highly observed slow living’ — not as a trend or a hashtag, but as a lifelong way of seeing. As a kid I could be held captive by a paragraph in a book or an oddly shaped wall, exploring the feelings it gave me. I’m still that kid, writing my way through the world in my monthly newsletter (example here). This conversation explores how to find depth, beauty and meaning in everyday moments, and why slowing down is an act of rewarding renewal.

Will suit: wellness, creativity, essay-based and ‘thoughtful living’ podcasts.

  1. The Ghostwriter’s Shift

What happens when you make a career being other people, then try to find your own voice?

For years, I helped other authors tell their stories — selling more than 4 million copies under other names. Then I had to learn how to write as myself. This conversation explores the strange, difficult and ultimately liberating process of finding your real voice after years of ventriloquism — why being invisible is both a comfort and a trap, and what it teaches us about identity, authenticity and creative courage.

Will suit: creative life, career transition, writing and ‘reinvention’ podcasts.

A bit about me, in small bites

  • Author of the Nail Your Novel writing craft series, literary novels (My Memories of a Future Life, Lifeform Three, Ever Rest) and quirky, warm memoirs (Not Quite Lost, Turn Right At The Rainbow)
  • Ghostwriter with more than 4 million copies sold across multiple genres under multiple names (I’m a master of disguise)
  • Speaker and tutor at writing festivals, literary events and independent bookshops, radio show host (So You Want To Be A Writer, Surrey Hills Radio)
  • Newsletter writer with thousands of subscribers who seem to like my thoughtful, lyrical essays on slow living and the creative life

I’ve previously appeared on:

The Creative Penn (multiple appearances), Books & Travel, Where I’m From with Alyson Shelton. I’ve also (as mentioned above) had my own radio show on Surrey Hills, with independent bookseller Peter Snell. Here are some of our episodes.

Start with this book

If you’d like to get a feel for my voice and themes before we talk, I recommend starting with Turn Right At The Rainbow — a wry, nostalgic memoir about house-hunting, belonging, and the search for home. It’s been called ‘warm’, ‘lyrical’ and ‘quietly profound’.
