‘Compulsory reading for anyone moving from a much-loved home’

Mr J G P Roughton – 5 stars

I came across this book via a message sent by the author on an Alan Garner Facebook group. There are connections with Garner in that the author grew up in Alderley Edge and knew his landscape and his work well. This book is not fantasy but has elements of the spiritual and the liminal in the process of seeking to sell a much loved home and buy a new one, where the heart very much is in charge. The story is beautifully told and anyone who has been through this process will recognise the emotions and the estate agents involved. It is part memoir, but so much more than that, really hard to find the words to describe it – it should be compulsory reading for anyone contemplating moving on from a much loved home, and indeed for anyone who has ever lived in a place where they have fond memories.
